Why are the ghost Web Directories around and with high PR?

At CISCB.COM we are a huge fan of Web Directories which surely not comes as a surprise and we love the world of Web Directories, investigating how they can perform and have a huge impact of the major search engines is amazing.

We come across a lot of the GHOST Web Directories which have become a HIGH PR ranking by Google but which for instant have 8.000 or 15.000 Pending links in their review queue, looking at those figures it is amazing why they don’t do one of 2 things, 1 remove all the pending links or 2. start their reviewing! Also looking at this pending link number makes us crazy since they waste the honest submitters time.

But why are those directories still alive and why do they not approve the submissions?

This is a good question, since we our self maintain more than 40 Web Directories and those are active Web Directories not GHOSTS! Then we figured out to have plenty of submission in the queue brings more paid submission which is why those directories are for, they are cash cows and nothing else! Personally I don’t like the idea, but often those Web Directories are maintained by some pure Webmasters which need the quick buck so I can’t blame them. But it leads each time my attention to that I won’t go and submit my site to certain directories be course this isn’t honest business.

Maintaining a Web Directory is time consuming and also expansive since they get a massive amount of hits once they are old enough and have been maintained regularly. The problem often is that people think they can just install a $25 script on their server and often on a cheap shared hosting plan, through some links in and see the money comes in! BIG STOP! This is surely a big no go, if you do something, you should do it for pleasure and fun not only for the money, often the money comes if you like what you are doing. To succeed in the World of Web Directories you will need to put a lot of work into them, and gain all the other benefits from it (beside the money) which you truly will get.

For webmasters all around the world it is the same, we are all looking for back links, high PR web site which want to link to us, therefore a Web Directory is a care common opportunity for many and they use them, unfortunately this opportunity also attract SPAMMERS, Web Sites which do illegal activity and Webmasters that even would submit their own sole to a Web Directory if they got 20 bucks for it. Those have made it a pain to maintain and submit to a Web Directory , however there are measures to get around it.

Shortly, rumors are going that it can’t  be good to pay for a listing since the big G is looking at it as an negative thing and will properly ban your link, also I’m not stupid, I see the report link in G’s webmaster tools, however, to have your link listed for a certain amount of month as a Advertising won’t harm you and it is in many cases shown that your site get better indexed, it’s odd but true we have seen that many examples on this now that I assume people spreading the opposite just simply not understand how things work.

Now go ahead and submit your listing to our Web Directory we will approve it ;)

Web Directory and free or paid links, what you I do?

The forums around the Internet are full of statements that a Web Directory which takes payment to list a web site featured will not be indexed by Google, and that it isn’t worth to submit your web site to any Web Directory.

A Web Directory is a good source to get indexed faster by Google and if you choice the right Web Directory it can even help you to get a higher ranking in the major search engines. A Web Directory has the benefit that you get your web site published to the Internet, many users of the Internet serve the Web Directory’s as much as they visit other web sites, and of course if the Web Directory has sticked tightly to a niche specific topic.

When you submit your web site to any Web Directory it is a major benefit if you look in the search engines how good this Web Directory is indexed and which PR ranking it has in Google.

Also in some cases it can be of benefit to make a donation to get your link listed faster in the Web Directory of your choice. Since it often can take up to 3 or 4 month before you get listed with an free listing then it is better to go for an paid listing if you are in an hurry.

When you submit your website to any Web Directory, then make sure you don’t use any automatic submission tools which will get your web site submitted to hundreds of Web directories within minutes, often those automation software will submit to very bad indexed Web Directories and it will go to fast and will be noticed by the major search engines as spam.

When you submit your web site to a Web directory, than make sure you make a good and long description of the web site you want to get listed, make sure that you enter the Meta Description and even also have some Meta keywords for your listing ready. People often just submit their website with 4 or 5 words, not meta description and keywords, this is waste of time, both yours, and the owner of the Web Directory, since often those submissions get deleted.

Also it only makes sense to submit your Web Site to a Web Directory if you do it correctly and that said, you will need to submit your web site to the right category for instant if your web site is about computers and you make your submission in the category for autos then it will make your listing less worth the effort.

We hope above helps you and brings some clarification, and remember regardless what people are telling you, it is worth to submit your Web Site to a Web Directory.

Welcome to our Information Page About Web Directories

Before we get started, above this web site we have a MENU, you can click directory specific on which you want to learn more about.

So why should I submit my web site to a web directory?
Very simple, while you got your web site online now and you for any reason need to get traffic to your web site, then we recommend to get your web site listed with the major web directories on the Internet. You do not need to submit your web site to ALL web directories or thousands of directories, forget this. What you need to do is to find directories which have a GOOD PR and is ranked well in the major search engines.

You will need to have a look at how old the Web Directory is, how good it is indexed with other sites and how much traffic this directory gets.

That’s a lot of requirements, I know, now I will learn you how to find out how much traffic the web site gets. Go to alexa.com and enter the web directory’s domain name in there, hit submit, and now you get the overview of how much traffic this web site gets on a weekly and monthly basis. Those figures are not 100% correct since Alexa.com is only counting traffic from users which use the Alexa bar tool. But it gives you are very good indication how well the web directory ranks in and if there is even some traffic to it.

No when you need to find out how well the website is indexed in Google, you will need to go to google.com it is important that you use GOOGLE.COM and not google.de or Google UK or some regional, since we want to know what the world see.  How to do that, is simply by entering, -> site:www.domainname.com <- needless to say that you should change “domainname.com” with the domain name of the web directory.

Also if you install the Google Toolbar you will in the top of your browser see the PR ranking of the web directory, everything what have a PR ranking from 1 to 10 might be of interest for you, of course web directory with a for instant PR of 5 or 7 is the best to submit your web site to, however, often you will need to pay to get listed on those. Start with a Web Directory which has at least a PR 1 or 2 and then find about 10 or 20 directories to start with.

And of course you can start here : ciscb.com

Paid Web Diretcory!

What should I consider if I want to go for a paid listing in an web directory?

I would defiantly suggest you to check the PR ranking of the directory before I go and pay for any listing, also it is important for you to know how well this web directory is ranked and indexed in for instant Google.

In general it is a good idea to get a paid listing but you will need to make sure that the web directory has the audience for your business or web site. For instant it makes no sense to pay for a listing in an Web Directory which is about DOGs or CATs if you web site is about web hosting.

Also very important : When you find some of the few really high indexed web directories which have a PR of about 5 or even higher, then look carefully if they don’t have the option to just put a reciprocal link on your web site to get listed. If so take this option.

Another important reason to go for a paid listing in an Web Directory is the speed of the approval time, some Web Directory’s take ages to approve “free” links, they prefer to go and approve the paid listings first and often within 24 hours.

For a brand new web site which isn’t even known by Google or any other search engine, it could be a very good possibility for you to pay for a listing in an Web Directory with high traffic, it will kick start your web site and get it indexed often within 36 to 48 hours, which, is much faster than if you manual submit your web site to the engines.

You can get a cheap paid listing here, this website has also a very good PR ranking and is well indexed in Google.
